The Vulcan Academy Murders

Jean Lorrah

Science Fiction12/8/1998

Ah, yes, another one of the hundreds of pulp Star Trek fiction. But some are better than others. This is one of the better ones.

After a wounded crew member needs special treatment that can only be rendered on Vulcan, the Enterprise heads there. Kirk, McCoy, and Spock take the crewman down to the Vulcan Science Academy. Spock's mother is also hospitalized to receive special treatment to help her live longer on Vulcan. This gives Spock an opportunity to visit with his father and mother while there. Sarek, Spock's father, has come to accept his son's decision to join Star Fleet and is trying to once again build their bonds.

Meanwhile, people are dying in the Vulcan Science Academy hospital. The indicators are for murder. But murder? On Vulcan? Such a thing has passed away as the Vulcan society accepted the teachings of Surak. It is up to Spock, Kirk, and McCoy to discover the truth before Spock's mother also becomes a victim.
