Mick Carerra has been hired to find a murderer - Caterina Shaw. She killed Dr.Wells at the Wardwell biotech company that does genetic research. She was one of the patients there receiving specialized experimental treatment for her brain cancer. Although the cancer is gone, she now has become rogue. The doctor died, then she escaped from the Wardwell grounds. Mick, an ex-army ranger, takes special jobs like this. He isn't cheap. The remaining doctor, Dr. Edwards, says he can return Cat to Wardwell alive or dead.

When Mick learns he isn't the only specialist hired, he becomes more suspicious. Why is Dr. Edwards so interested in Cat? From her photo he can tell she is a beautiful woman. She was an accomplished cellist before the brain tumor took away her talent. Yes, she had been part of experimental therapy, but does that make her worth millions of dollars to have returned to them?

Cat Shaw is on the run. Her memory is patchy - she remembers blood and gore all over the room and on her. But everything else is vague. While running through the woods she notices how her feet blend in to the ground. When she first sees Mick in a tunnel she doesn't understand why he doesn't see her. Then she realizes her trunk is the same color as the wall behind her. She doesn't understand. She soon realizes there's something wrong with her and she doesn't feel right.

Caridad Pineiro gives us a suspense novel using the potentials of genetic research. Drs. Edwards and Wells did more than cure her cancer with their experiments. They made some fundamental changes in Cat's DNA. Sins of the Flesh examines how, as in all great discoveries, the work studies for good can be put to evil use as well. It is an interesting look at what man can do.

The writing is fair but the premise and ideas are intriguing. Mick has two distinct sides - his ex-ranger, special ops hunter side and his loving family side - kept scrupulously apart. Cat's family is gone and her memories aren't good. She has a chance to see what a family can be. It doesn't matter to the story, but the protagonists are of Mexican descent which enriches the family background.
