Across the Sea of Stars

Arthur C. Clarke

Science Fiction10/26/2000

Eighteen short stories by Arthur C. Clarke. This is not much more I need say to any science fiction fan. Clarke is one of the preeminent science fiction authors of our times. These stories date back as early as the 60's, yet barely date themselves (except one issue - vacuum tubes rather than transistors or computer chips). This is a wonderful cross section of some of his most imaginative work.

I have read many of these stories in other collections. This includes "History Lesson" that has a surprise twist at the end. "Time's Arrow" leads us to a frightening possibility. "Rescue Mission" shows mankind's potential. "Technical Error" reminds us we need to be careful with our new inventions. We see the possibility of a civilization in the center of our planet in "The Fire Within."

Clarke is a physicist and many of his stories are based in sound fact of the time they are written. Most of the possibilities he inspects could still happen. Even the stories with aliens and light speed space travel are written in a believable style. This is a collection that is to be enjoyed.
