This is a collection of mystery short stories with a speculative fiction bent - either futuristic science fiction or supernatural fantasy. They are stories by four bestselling authors, two of whom I know, one of whom I have read (and yes, I bought it on J.D. Robb's name). J.D. Robb's story, "Interlude in Death" is a worthy addition to the series with Eve Dallas in 2059. I thought Susan Krinard's "Kinsman" extremely good, a story of space travel and communication with alien species. Maggie Shayne's "Immortality" is the story of a 4,000 year old witch. I started, but did not finish Laurell K. Hamilton's "Magic Like Heat Across My Skin" because it is the beginning of her new novel starring the vampire hunter, Anita Blake. I have the first one of those books on reserve at the library, and decided to start at the beginning of the series rather than a short story in the middle. If you like the unexpected, speculative twist to your mysteries, you'll enjoy these. I did, especially the first two. Notice: Non-graphic violence, Strong sexual content |
