M.Y.T.H. Inc. In Action

M.y.t.h. Inc. In Action
Fantasy 1/23/2010 Rating: 3 Scrolls

While Skeeve is in Pervect trying to get Aahz to return with him, members of M.Y.T.H. Inc. are following his orders in Possiltum. Skeeve wants them to stop Queen Hemlock's spread of power. Her army is taking over neighboring countries. So Guido and Nunzio are joining the Possiltum army to sow dissension.

They quickly learn that in order for them to get to an area where they can cause trouble within the military they have to get their whole unit through basic training. They do so well they are promoted and the unit is stationed at the local garrison on watch duty. Now they can start turning the troopers against each other and the local civilian population.

Since the tale focuses on Guido, Nunzio, and the other members of M.Y.T.H. Inc, there is little magic. Although Tananda the troll sister has a disguise mirror that allows her to change her appearance. The story focuses on the humorous frustration Guido and Nunzio have. They are used to working with the Mob, not an inept organization like the military.

This is cute, fun, and worth some chuckles. While not one of the better Myth novels, it's needed as part of the series. Robert Asp rin has written a fun fantasy series. M.Y.T.H. Inc. in Action is narrated by Guido. Guido has worked hard since college to cultivate his Italian mob accent = don't tease him about it. The accent challenges the reader a bit more, translating the wonderful accented slang.

While M.Y.T.H. Inc. in Action is not great writing, it is fun entertainment and escapism for a few hours.
