A Magic-Lover's Treasury of the FantasticMargaret Weis, editor
This is a group of short stories about magic by many masters of fantasy writing. I really enjoyed some of the stories, others I could have cared less about. I was really pleased to read The Anything Box by Zenna Henderson (who I mention on my sci fi reading page). It has the same tenor and feel of her People series. This short story is always mentioned when someone reviews Henderson's work. It is a fascinating story of the wonder of children. There are stories by Greg Bear, Ray Bradbury, Orson Scott Card, Andre Norton, Ursula LeGuin, Mercedes Lackey and many others. If you like these writers, you will find stories from fantasy worlds to disappearing people to present day magic to Camelot. It's fun and worth your time. |
