Robin Cook

Science Fiction9/10/1998

This novel was written to go with the mini-series that showed on NBC in 1997. If you watched the mini-series, you've read the book. It was written from the TV script rather than the TV show being taken from a pre-existing book.

The aliens are once again trying to take over Earth. They bombard the Earth with small glossy stones that when picked up sting the person holding them. Then genetic mutations are started within the person, turning them into an alien themself.

Beau Stark was the first human affected. His girlfriend Cassy did not know what was happening, just that Beau's personality was changing. As more people are infected, those with a natural immunity either die or go into comas. Soon unaffected humans realize something is going on and start a resistence. Then it becomes a struggle between the aliens trying to take over and the humans trying to keep Earth.

Robin Cook is a very good writer. Too bad his promise did not hold through with this book. Both the TV mini-series and the book were ho-hum. I was able to enjoy the science fiction, but was not pulled into the story. I was never involved with the story.
