Here There Be DragonsJane Yolen
Jane Yolen admits she likes writing about dragons. She has proven it many times over, and this is a sample to show her expertise. This book is a collection of short stories and poems she has written. The poems include a lullaby, the need for dragons, and making dragons. The stories are varied, from dragon fights that are like cock fights to dragon kites to Chinese dragons. I especially like the one about St. George and the Dragon told from the dragon's viewpoint. There are also mystical ink illustrations by David Wilgus. Not all are dragons, but all relate to the stories. They are very striking. This book is one to read. Since it is short stories and poetry, it's easy to read a little at a time. |
