The "Myth" series is light, humerous fun that pokes at everything at some time or another. Skeeve is the court magician in Possiltum and is the apprentice to Aahz, a Prevect (not a pervert as many call his race). He has a young dragon, Gleep, a war Unicorn, Buttercup, and friends in different dimensions. In this, the fourth of the series, Aahz gets called back to his own dimension and Skeeve is left on his own in Possiltum. King Rodney wants to take a short vacation and has Skeeve put on a disguise spell and portray him for a day. What he doesn't mention to Skeeve is that is homicidal bride is on her way for their wedding. When Skeeve learns this, he is certain Rodney will not be back in his promised 24 hours. To make life a little more interesting, the Mob sends an accountant representative to collect a missing member. Shai-ster, the representative, is looking for Skeeve. The Mob blames the great magician Skeeve for that particular failure. They threaten to insiduously take over Possiltum. This book is a lot of fun. While Skeeve's history is explained, it is better read after the preceding novels, especially the first, Another Fine Myth. This is not deep stuff. It is light and fluff, humorous, and a book to take a break from real life. |
