Star Trek Final Frontier

Diane Carey

Science Fiction11/7/1998

"These are the voyages of the starship Enterprise..." Actually, this novel is about the maiden voyage of the Enterprise. Before she had a name, while Captain James T. Kirk was still a child, the ship was commissioned to go on a rescue mission.

Captain April "kidnapped" some of his trusted Star Fleet friends to help fly the untried ship, the first to be able to stay in continual high warp. One of these people he drafted was George Kirk, head of security on a star base. And he just happened to have two sons, Sam and Jimmy, back on Earth in Iowa. George becomes first officer on this ship that needs a name to justify her beauty and strength.

But any Star Trek fan knows that if you are in the starship Enterprise (or one that will earn that name), excitement is bound to follow. Through a warp accident, this undermanned, underequipped starship finds itself in the middle of Romulan enemy space.

This is a fun book. The family dynamics that Captain James Kirk dealt with as a child are explored. And of course the crew of the Enterprise has to once again save the Federation.
