Rand, Mat, and Perrin live in a small village at the edge of the Realm. After the monstrous Trollocs attack the village, they follow the mystic Moiraine and her companion, Lan. They set off unwillingly on adventure, compelled by forces they could not understand. Egwene follows them. Rand tries to stop her because of the danger that could be involved. She is as headstrong as they and refuses to return. This band of people start towards Moiraine's home. They are being chased by Trollocs, Fades, and other followers of the Dark One. Thus begins Robert Jordan's lengthy Wheel of Time fantasy series. The characters are intriguing. The world that holds these characters is becoming defined. There is so much more we will be able to learn. Recently I was present at an interview with Mr. Jordan. He said that the first book presents one world, then the second one twists the reader's perception just a bit, then again in the third, etc. He wanted to examine myths and their origins. This World, its magic, and its people, delve into a lot of myths that exist in our world. And look, I have his signature in my well worn book!
