An Exchange of GiftsAnne McCaffrey
This is one of Anne McCaffrey's short fantasy novellas. It has been published by itself, but is a short story. It it an easy read, and enjoyable McCaffrey. Meanne has escaped from her upper class family to live on her own. She has a gift of growing plants, and is not allowed to practice it in her own home. She has run away, falsifying her death so her family will not hunt for her. Wisp is a frail looking teen who appears at Meanne's cottage shortly after she moves in. He has obviously been whipped. He also is now hiding out from those who abused him. He offers to stay with Meanne and help her. She agrees. The two quickly learn they make a good team. He teaches her how to cook, she teaches him about herbs and healing plants. They both agree not to ask about the other's past. What are they both hiding? |
