Circles in the StreamRachel Roberts
Emily, age 12, has just moved to Pennsylvania with her mother, a veterinarian. She misses her friends and her father in Colorado. But she enjoys helping her mother in the clinic. She loves animals. When a large wildcat from the Ravenswood Wildlife Preserve is brought into the clinic, she is frozen, unable to help. The cat has been burned on most of its body. Emily sees a green glow from the burns. And is the cat talking to her? A couple days later Emily is walking the dogs from their boarding kennel when two chase into the Wildlife Preserve. Following them, Emily finds herself in a strange clearing with rainbow colored puff flowers, small whirlwinds, and menace. The only proof she has after the episode is a beautiful stone. Then she meets Adriane, the strange girl who had brought the cat into the clinic. Adriane is unwelcoming and jealous. She has a stone like Emily's. They start talking and comparing stories. Adriane has had some unusual experiences as well. She lives on the preserve with her grandmother, the caretaker. Emily and Adriane have been chosen to help preserve a parallel magical world, Avalon. To their dismay, they discover they need a third person. The snobbish, popular Kara is the person who is drawn to their predicament. Kara is not Adriane's choice, but that's the way the magic is working. Together the three girls begin to learn what they need to do to preserve Avalon and protect their own world.
