The Battle of the Labyrinth

Percy Jackson is getting ready to enter high school. He's looking forward to spending his summer at Camp Half Blood. First, though, he has to attend an orientation. He is attacked by monster cheerleaders. It's one of the problems with being the son of a powerful Greek god. With the help of a mortal girl who can see thru the magic mist, he is able to escape while only leaving minimal damage to the school this time - the auditorium burns down.

At camp he joins his friend Annabeth in her quest thru the Labyrinth. They are trying to find Daedalus, the inventor of the Labyrinth. First, though, they have to find their way thru the paths that are confusing and never stay the same.They are joined by Grover the satyr and Tyson, Percy's cyclops half-brother.

They encounter more monsters than they dream. Kronos is building his power for the Titans to attach the Olympian gods. Percy discovers that help can come from unexpected places. He also learns more about his personal powers. His father has given him more than dyslexia and attention deficit disorder. His powers still need to be controlled (Mt. St. Helen's is a good example) but he understands them better.

Now if he could only understand the girls in his life.

The Battle of the Labyrinth continues pulling the arc of the series story to its final showdown between the Titans and the Olympic gods. Percy's attitude and thoughts are maturing as he grows a little older in age - 14 almost 15 - and much older in knowledge and awareness. Being part of life and death battles will do that for a boy.

Although this book doesn't move as quickly as the previous books, it is still exciting. It also reflects a slightly more mature Percy. Rick Riordan is bringing along a boy in an unbelievable situation in a believable way. Enjoy.
