Lydia Smith is a powerful detangler having an affair with an even more powerful ghost hunter. Emmet London had been the Guild Boss in had stepped down and was now working freelance as a consultant here in Cadence City. Lydia had problems with his profession because she has little trust of most ghost hunters, but once Emmet entered in life in After Dark, she couldn't let him go. She still works at Shrimptons House of Ancient Horrors, a second rate museum with one first rate item in their collection. Because of the dreamstone she and Emmet had retrieved, Shrimptons now had something worth drawing in customers. She now was able to start consulting in the alien antiquities trade herself. She had been a respected academic until she was lost in the caverns and had paraamnesia from her "Lost Weekend" which she blames on ghost hunters. Now she is rebuilding her career and has added a new, wealthy, picky client. When the boss of the Cadence City Guild is almost murdered, Emmet steps in on a temporary basis. He has problems immediately - he may be facing a challenge from another ghost hunter who is now on the Guild Council. If the other takes over, Mercer Wyatt wouldn't be able to return to be Guild Boss. Mercer has been trying to reform the Guild's image. Besides, he's Emmet's unacknowledged father. Then, to add to his annoyances, the Restoration Ball, the city's annual gala affair, is in a few days and he has to go in Mercer's place. When Lydia accidently finds a dead body (the second in just a few months) she knows trouble is in her future. But she and Emmet can't predict what they are going to face as they have to return to the caverns. And what is she going to wear when she accompanies Emmet to the gala? After Glow is the second mystery for Lydia and Emmet and the conclusion to After Dark. The story is average romantic fun. It's a quick, easy read. Jayne Castle has fun imagining her world of Harmony and it's environment. It's fairly predictable as it unfolds, but it still satisfies. At the end, all's right with the world, just as it should be.
