When Kristin arrives at her aunts' home, they are packing for an around the world cruise. On their way out the door, they tell her she has a new job. They're retiring and it's her turn - to be a fairy godmother. Huh?

Kristin is an organized CPA. Her aunts had always been a bit unusual. Now she learns they are retiring fairy godmothers. She is one of the women selected to replace them. Kristin is extremely special. Most fairy godmothers come from the Arcani, the people with magic who live among the rest of us on Earth. She instead is a Groundling (the rest of us) who comes into magic. She is a Rare One with more power than the normal Arcani. Now she has to learn how to use her powers.

Tennyson Rittter is an Arcani wizard and historian. He'd like nothing better than to be studying in the Arcani university library. Instead he has been assigned to be Kristin's arbiter. He is to help her learn her powers, then judge if she is worthy of being a fairy godmother. Kristin quickly decides Tennyson is a troll. But he won't leave. He doesn't like the job any more than she likes having him but he will do it. She's his assignment.

Another Arcani man shows up to visit her aunts. Lucas' mother had been a friend of the aunts. He comes to visit them shortly after they had left. He invites Kirstin out to dinner instead. She's looking forward to it. Then someone starts attacking the Arcani. Tennyson's close friend and mentor is killed in an earthquake. The aunts' house is bombed. Kristin has to be hidden away while her powers are growing and coming under her control. She understands - yet can she stay with the troll?

The Wish List is the first in Gabi Stevens fairy godmother trilogy. It's a fun romp. Stevens has taken a wizards' and sorcerers' war and makes it fun. The aunts are flighty and savvy at once. It's quickly obvious the troll is the best man for Kristin. It's also easy to tell what is going to happen in general although the specifics can startle. But The Wish List doesn't try to hide the suspense or the bad guys. It's cute and a good novel for its type.

The Wish List is romantic fun with fairy godmothers. Take the book to the beach and enjoy yourself.
