Tall Tales and Wedding Veils

Jane Graves

5/5/2008

Heather Montgomery is coerced into a trip to Las Vegas with her cousin, a soon-to-be bride, and the others bridesmaids. She's in the wedding because she's family, not because she is extra close to the bride. She decides to spend the evening on her own. She runs into a man she recognizes from her home town.

Tony McCaffrey is in Las Vegas because his loan to start his own business fell through. He is trying a last ditch effort to win what he needs to put the down payment on his favorite home town bar. When he runs into Heather, he has lost the last of his money and is ready to go back to Plano, Texas. Heather gives him the $10 chip she found. Before the night is over they have won the money he needs. They also get married...

The next day they realize that the over celebrated and decide to keep the wedding quiet and get an annulment. It's really too bad they hadn't made some announcement phone calls while they were drunk the night before. Returning to Plano isn't as easy as they hoped it would be.

Tony is a happily single guy who flits from woman to woman (playboy). Before he buys the bar he was a repossession agent. Heather is focused and responsible. She's an accountant and doesn't date much. She has noticed him in the bar but knows he's "out of her league". He hasn't noticed her because she stays in the back.

This romance novel is cute and fun. It's formulaic and goes pretty much where expected. Yet Jane Graves infuses Tall Tales and Wedding Veils with the humor of good chick lit. I read the novel with a light heart and a smile.

The characters feel human and properly conflicted. When Tony realizes Heather's worth in the bar, the reader can understand him and believe the feelings. When Heather watches Tony with her family, the reader is right there with her. Tall Tales and Wedding Veils pulls the romantic's heart strings.
