The American actress Phoebe Spring married Prince Abdu ibn Faisal Rahman al-Jaquir, the prince of the Middle East country Jaquir. Her marriage of love quickly turned into a marriage of captivity and hate. After their only child, Adrianne, was born, and Phoebe could have no more children, Abdu turned from her. When Adrianne was 8 years old, Phoebe was finally able to escape Jaquir with her daughter. Abdu divorced Phoebe and ignored Adrianne. Philip Chamberlain was raised by his mother in England. She worked hard to support and raise him. By the time he was a young teen, he turned to jewel theft to help his mother and to support himself in the lifestyle he wanted to live. He rose to be one of the most famous jewel thieves in the world. Then he retired from the business and went to work for Interpol. He had his past forgiven as he helped them catch others who also stole gems and jewelry. He has been hunting The Shadow, a very selective, very successful burglar. The Shadow has a reputation that is very close to his own. He would take only the best gems, leaving others behind, in daring robberies. Philip does not realize that the grown, sophisticated Princess Adrianne is The Shadow. She has an ultimate goal in mind before she retires from the business - a goal of revenge. It is easy to see where this book is going from early on. Since it is a romance, the reader already realizes that Philip and Adrianne are going to get together. How do two jewel thieves come together? If one is not chasing the other, they must come to an agreement or work together. Once each knows about the other, it is fun reading the "shop talk." Despite its obvious direction, this is a pleasing tale. These are characters I could be interested in and want to follow. As is often the case when I read a Nora Roberts romance, it was difficult to put down. Notice: Strong sexual content |
