Christy McKenna hasn't seen her younger sister in 12 years. Now Jo, a super model, calls for help. Christy knows what Jo is like and that Jo is probably pulling something, but at the same time if Jo is reaching out for real, Christy would like to reclaim the relationship. Her fashion magazine assigns her the story of Peter Hutton's (Jo's boss) new designer clothing collection, so she flies to Colorado for the story and to help Jo. When she arrives, Jo is gone. Hutton believes Jo has flown back to New York. Christy meets the man that Jo warned her against and wonders what happened. Aaron Cain is western tough but appears trustworthy despite his prison record. He is an archeologist of Native American and Anasazi artifacts. When Christy is almost caught snooping in Jo's room at Hutton's home, Cain is the one who rescues her. Soon the pair is on the run from the law and from some unknown people trying to kill them. What is the archeological secret that is behind all the facades? They have to trust each other in order to learn the truth. The Secret Sister is one of Elizabeth Lowell's older romantic suspense novels. Actually, the mystery part of the suspense is interesting, not just background to the romance. This isn't one of Lowell's stronger works, but still satisfies. It was a perfect book for a cross country plane ride. The Anasazi lore is intriguing and educational. When Christy and Cain come across a complete dwelling area, I was reminded of Preston and Child's novel, Thunderhead. The reader knows something will happen to hide the area again, but it still pulls at the imagination. Notice: Strong sexual content |
