Lettie Thornquist was a librarian at a college in Indiana when her Uncle Charlie died. He left her his company in Seattle, a sporting gear company. She left Indiana, her broken engagement, librarian job, and university life behind and moved to Seattle. She is looking to change her life and become a businesswoman.

Joel Blackstone is the CEO of Thornquist Gear. He knows that Lettie's uncle was owner of the company, but left everything to Joel to run. Joel built Thornquist Gear from a small store to the thriving large company Lettie has inherited. Charlie died shortly before they could complete the deal of Joel buying out the company. He does not want this upstart librarian messing up his company.

Then there was Copeland Marine, the company that Thornquist Gear was ready to liquidate. Before Joel is allowed to close the company, Lettie has to visit Echo Cove and Copeland Marine. He accompanies her. There she discovers that Copeland Marine is more than a failing company. It is also a key to Joel's haunted past.

I really enjoyed this story. Every time I had to put it down I anticipated getting back to it. Lettie is a strong woman, Joel's equal. She doesn't realize her own strength at first. She doesn't back down at any time, and is open to Joel's emotions and advances.
