Alexandrine Marit knows her powers aren't srong enough to be more than a very minor witch, banned from the mage world. While in Western Europe she found an amulet that she has worn since. During that trip she also discovered her father is Rasmus Kessler, a very powerful mage. When her brother returns after a ten year absence, she learns that Rasmus wants the amulet and would have no qualms killing her to get it.

Her brother Harsh brought along Xia to protect Alexandrine. Xia hates witches and would prefer to kill them than protect one. But he hates Rasmus more. He's a demon who Rasmus had enslaved for years. Now he owes a debt to the being that freed him. Now that means he has to guard Alexandrine from her own father and protect the amulet - a talisman of his own kind.

In my opinion, you shouldn't waste your time with this book. I tried - I really tried. I find I usually don't care for paranormal romance featuring demons but can get through them if the writing is decent. The demon Xia is not a sympathetic character. Alexandrine never comes off the page. And the writing is just bad and sensational. I gave up about a third of the way in when Rasmus appears to kidnap Alexandrine and re-enslave Xia. So I skipped to the end to see if I could get interested enough to go back and at least skim the rest of the book. It didn't help. Instead, it reinforced my opinion of how bad this book is.
