When she was young, Kacie's parents and brother were killed by vampires. One of her father's best friends lost his wife in the same attack. He adopted Kacie and raised her with his daughter. Another of her father's best friends helped her become a vampire slayer. Then she discovered that Erik Winslow is also a vampire. She moved away and became an accountant. Now she has returned home before moving to the United States. When she reaches the village near the family castle, she kills a vampire. Later she learns that the dead vampire that was found was Erik's close friend from before his death. The vampire's brother, Michael, another vampire, has sworn vengeance on his brother's killer. If the killer had been anyone except Kacie, Erik would have been at Michael's side. But he had promised to protect Kacie with his life twenty years earlier. He has to find some way to appease Michael. Kacie hates Erik because he is a vampire. Yet he has been her protector since she was orphaned and adopted. She discovers the teen aged crush she had on him before she knew his true nature has returned - but now it is the attraction for a grown woman. Until now, Erik and Michael controlled the vampires near them and were able to protect the humans living in the village near the castle. With the feud that has arisen, the vampires are ready to go back to the call of sweet human blood. Is there any way to protect Kacie and prevent a vampire war at the same time? Vampire romances are very popular right now. Robin T. Popp uses her own twist on the vampire saga and how the different castes of vampires are created. The atmosphere is appropriately dark and the conflict between Erik and Michael feels right for centuries old friends who find themselves in opposition. Lord of the Night is a quick paced novel that entertains those who like this paranormal romance genre. It's light, enjoyable story with a neatly devised ending.
