Knights

Romance 9/29/2001 Rating:4 Scrolls

Megan is five years old when she walks through a strange "gate" from the 20th century into medieval England. She becomes Gloriana and grows up in her new time period. By the time she is 20, she has forgotten her past life and is married by proxy to Dane Kenbrook, a knight returning from distant wars.

Dane has decided to get an annulment from his wife to marry a woman he met in France. Gloriana will not allow herself to be shunted off to a nunnery. Instead she plans on winning her husband back to be a true wife to him. Yet those memories still occasionally surface. Is her past in the 20th century going to interfere with her future with Dane?

It is difficult for Gloriana when she finds herself liking the woman Dane has brought with him from France. It is difficult for Dane's older brother to allow the annulment because then the family would have to return her dowry and give up the guardianship of her extensive wealth left by her stepparents. Dane's younger brother is in love with her himself and would not mind seeing the annulment go through.

Just as she starts to get everything straightened, Gloriana's past interferes. She disappears from the thirteenth century and appears in the twentieth. Now what? How does she return to Dane? Can she return to Dane?

This book is two thirds story, one third fairly explicit sexual scenes. The romance is nicely done. I found myself wrapped up in Gloriana's feelings and worries. I had certain expectations from the traditional romance time travel novel that didn't happen here. Instead, this is a romance with a little time travel thrown in. The romantic reader will be pleased with this one.
