Romance 6/15/2003 Rating: 2 Scrolls

Lady Catherine Aldley is beautiful and headstrong. She prefers to live life rather than studying about it. Her father has a position in Portugal and she wants to visit London. Reluctantly he puts her on a ship he hope can outrun pirates. His worse nightmare happens. The ship is boarded by pirates and Cathy is taken prisoner along with some others on the trip.

Jonathan Hale is the captain of the pirate ship. He is a gentleman who has been exiled from England and his family. Now he sails the seas and plunders cargo and passenger ships. This time his trophies include the lovely Lady Catherine. Instead of locking her up with the other prisoners, he locks her in his quarters. She is his possession, and he takes and does what he wants. She quickly learns to hate him.

Will he sell her with the other captives? Will her father find her and rescue her? Is there hope for this couple? Ah, this is a romance novel, so of course there is. The tale has its ups and downs before they finally realize they have to spend the rest of their lives together.

This book never really caught my interest. I ended up skimming most of it. It's a decent diversion if there's nothing else around to read.
