Caine has been hanging out at a dockside bar waiting for the pirate Pagan to find him. He wants revenge for his brother's death at Pagan's hands. One night as he has given up and is ready to leave again, a beautiful woman comes in looking for the man he is pretending to be. She needs his protection because she saw a rich man being murdered and now the murderers are coming after her. Jade has actually sought out Caine to protect him instead. She knows the truth behind his brother Colin's death. Caine is in danger. She and two men loyal to her will try to protect Caine until she can reveal the truth to him and clear Pagan's name. Her past has given her surprising skills and self assurance. Caine is not so easy to protect, though. Jade can't let him know what she is doing. Yet instead he insists on protecting her from the men who are supposedly seeking her. To add to the tangle, men are looking for both Caine and Jade to kill them for different reasons. They end up protecting each other from murderers and political intrigue. Who will protect them from each other? There are times I enjoy a good old fashioned pot boiler romance. Guardian Angel fills the niche quite nicely. Although this takes place in Regency England era, Jade is no simpering miss waiting for Mr. Right. She is too busy with her life with her uncle and brother. Besides, she knows no man stays for her and she has to rely on herself and her expertise in questionable skills. Julie Garwood has given the plot a good bit of mystery to go with the romance but Caine and Jade are the stars of this novel. Notice: Explicit sexual content |
