Young girls as flower girls. That usually presents a sweet picture in the mind of romantics. Each of these stories has a girl playing matchmaker for a pair of adults. This is light, easy reading, nice for the beach or at times when you don't need lots of concentration. The first story, "Striking a Match" by Janet Dailey pulled me right in. I have been a fan of Ms. Dailey's for over 20 years, and like her short stories as well as her novels. This has her style all over it. Beverly Beaver wrote the short story "To Love and to Cherish". A girl's divorced parents are forced to share a house while she is recuperating from an injury to her spinal cord. The last two, "Something Old, Something New" by Margaret Brownley and "Something Borrowed, Something Blue" by Ruth Jean Dale are companion pieces. They both feature Lily, a four-year-old that catches everyone's heart, including the father who does not know about her. |
