Finding the Dream

Romance 2/22/1999 Rating: 4 Scrolls

Laura Templeton grew up as a dreamer. Her friends and sisters Margo and Kate would tease her and worry about her. Laura always knew she would grow up and marry. She was destined to be a wife and mother. At 18 she became engaged to Peter Ridgeway. They married and had two lovely daughters. Ali and Kayla were about the only good things from the marriage. By the time she was 30, Laura realized what type of man Peter really was and divorced him.

Laura is still a dreamer even as she deals with the practicalities of life. Peter had diverted all their money, so she struggles to keep her daughters in their school, clothes, etc. Although the family money is available, she refuses to accept it. Yet every Sunday, she dreams of finding Seraphina's lost fortune. She, Margo, Kate, and her daughters comb the seaside cliffs every Sunday hoping the legendary fortune might be found.

Michael Neery grew up on the poor side of Monterey. He had been Joshua Templeton's closest friend, so was often around the Templeton house. He had been interested in Laura even as she seemed to ignore him. After school he left Monterey and went to prove himself. Now, many years later, he returns to Monterey. He rents stable space at the Templeton home to raise horses. What he doesn't plan is his reaction to Laura. She is more tempting now than when they had been teen agers.

This is a superb end of this trilogy and the first of the three that I read. Laura's problems and independence are quite realistic. She has been hurt and her daughters blame her for their father's absence. She fights the feelings Michael arouses in her. This is a romance novel, though, so she can't deny them, either.

The first two books of this trilogy are Daring to Dream and Holding the Dream.
