Love in Another TownBarbara Taylor Bradford
Maggie Sorrell is in her early 40's, divorced, estranged from her college aged children, and starting a new life in Connecticut. She has started her own interior decorating business and is doing well at it. Jake Cantrell, 29, has separated from his wife. He is awaiting his divorce. He owns his own lighting business. Jake and Maggie meet when they both are asked to help set up the play for New Milford, Connecticut, that year. Maggie's best friend, Samantha, is the producer and has convinced them both how valuable they would be in designing the set and the lights. As Maggie discovers Jake's talent with lighting, she pulls him in as the electrical contractor on a home she is renovating. Jake and Maggie feel the pull of attraction for each other. But of course she is sure he does not notice her/he is sure she does not notice him because of the age difference. Also, Jake's wife keeps stalling divorce proceedings. Love in Another Town is one of those books that if it is the only one around to read it will keep you occupied. Yet it is easy to have your attention wander, to not care about the characters. That bothered me because it was nice to have a story where once they realized they loved each other they didn't let other things get in the way. The separated wife tried to make demands, the ex-husband tries to interfere. Maggie and Jake are bright enough to know life is better for them now. The writing, though, never quite grabs the reader (or at least me as the reader). There are more reviews at Notice: Explicit sexual situations |
