Further Along the Road Less Traveled
The Unending Journey Toward Spiritual Growth
M. Scott Peck, M.D.
4/27/2003
This is Peck's follow up to his first best-seller, The Road Less Traveled. I found the first book excellent and knew I wanted to read more. Here Peck takes the next step from discovering our inner selves into the all-important spiritual realm. This is not a Christian conversion book, although Peck is a Christian. Instead, this is a book of self-growth.
This is not just a spiritual discovery book but again a self-awareness guide. As a psychiatrist, he makes a case that his field has to reach beyond the strict scientific studies into the realm of a person's soul. There are parts in here that reach and touch areas that I am striving with. He discussions include dealing with suffering and pain, blame and forgiveness, self-deception, mythology, addiction and death.
I found this book to be both extremely helpful and annoying. There are parts of his philosophy that grate with me. There are other parts that I found are just what I need as I work on my own inner person. This book has sections that make it worth reading, but the first book is much better.
