Help! I'm Laughing and I Can't Get UpLiz Curtis Higgs
I have been reading this book at bedtime for the past couple months. That really isn't the smartest thing to do because my husband has been asleep when I've done this. And this books causes me to laugh out loud, often with uncontrolled laughter. So I'm spluttering so I don't make noise and tears are rolling down my cheeks. One night I woke up Hubby who couldn't understand what was wrong with me. If you don't know Liz Curtis Higgs, this is a great way to meet her. I have been fortunate to see and speak with her in person. She calls herself an encourager, and she is. This book is another of her books where she has asked for input from other people. It is full of anecdotes of people laughing at themselves. Liz knows how to laugh at herself and make others laugh as well. She knows the value of laughter and humor in the best and the worst of situations. She'll be the first to tell you that there are times you cannot laugh. She'll also be the first to tell you that eventually you will laugh, and you will be the better for it. She categorizes personality types into the way we respond to humor and public. She uses laughter for healing the spirit and for stress relief. She helps us look at ourselves and see how fortunate we are. As a Christian, she sprinkles her beliefs in as well, but does not use them as a battering ram. Instead, they are in the background, reinforcing the message she has about how to enjoy living. This particular book means even more to me. I found it on my grandfather's bookshelf when we were cleaning up his things after he died last summer. I did not know Grandpa had discovered this lady. I took this book before any other family member had a chance to look at that shelf - if I got nothing else of Grandpa's, I wanted this book and a pillow I had made for him. I'll share it with anyone else in the family - but I want it back! I hope Grandpa enjoyed it and Liz's message as much as I do. Check this book out - I bet you enjoy it, too.
