Christmas Around the World
A Pop-Up Book

Chuck Fischer

Christmas Around the World

Nonfiction 12/17/2007 Rating: 5 Scrolls

Christmas is celebrated differently in Christian countries in the world. When we stay in our own country around our own traditions, we can overlook that fact. Chuck Fischer has taken an amazing paper craft talent and produced this wonderful book about different Christmas traditions.

The best way to review this book would be to show pictures of the different pages - which still wouldn't do it justice. Here's a flat picture of the England page - losing all the dimensions of the pop up in the middle:

Christmas Around the World

The Father Christmas pictures on both sides open up to reveal more small books or columns giving snippets of history or trivia about Christmas in the country or region pictured. Each page has tidbits hidden on the sides or in a pull out or in a fold out. This would be a wonderful book for a small group with someone using it as a show and tell type text or for anyone who enjoys Christmas to cherish. Many of the facts and traditions Fischer discusses were things I knew - but there was much that was new to me as well.

When this book was first offered I only heard "Christmas" and pop-up book. I thought it was a children's book. Christmas Around the World isn't a children's book - except for the child at heart. It is a book any adult will enjoy. I'll let my grandchildren hold this someday - when they're teens, probably.

Make sure you mention the book title because these go to a general mail box and I don't always know which book you might mean. Thanks!
