Lieutenant Eve Dallas and Detective Delia Peabody are called to the gruesome scene of a murder. The woman had been beaten, raped, and strangled with a red cord. Then her eyes had been surgically removed and she was posed naked in a New York City park. Now they have to find the murderer. The day after the murder some unexpected help arrives in Dallas' office. A psychic claims she saw the murder as it happened. While Dallas is skeptical, the woman knows details not revealed to the public, like the missing eyes. This case revolves around Dallas' personal life as well. She and Peabody need to go to a battered women's shelter to interview their friend Dr. Louise D'Amato regarding the murder. The shelter brings back memories Dallas wishes she doesn't have. Dallas' friends and relationships are integral in this novel. The case gets under her skin. The psychic could not prevent more murders. Dallas decides to bring the murderer out from hiding. She uses herself, Peabody, and Nadine Furst to challenge the man who appears to hate women. She can't imagine the ripples and repercussions she has started. The murder mystery in Visions in Death is not a strong as some in the "In Death" series by J.D. Robb. But Dallas' personal story in this book will more than compensate the author's fans. Dallas has considered herself a loner. Yet in Visions in Death she begins to comprehend just how important her friends are to her and how lucky she is with them. The book kept me reading right through - which was a good thing. Both my daughters were breathing down my neck to get their hands on it. There's also a twist at the end that caught me off guard. I was reading too quickly to catch the clues...
