It's December and Goldy Schulz's busiest time of year for her catering business. This December rush started strangely. The day after Thanksgiving she is certain she sees the woman who killed her ex-husband about six months earlier. The woman supposedly died in a forest fire. Plus Goldy added on two last events after her normal Christmas reservation deadline. Hermie MacArthur and her husband are very wealthy and could give Goldy more business throughout the year. Now Goldy is prepping for the local library's Christmas breakfast the next morning. She's setting up at the library when she thinks she see the mysterious woman again in a different part of the library. Then a whining noise starts up. Goldy goes over to investigate. The librarian is trying to revive a man found lying on the floor. But Drew Wellington, former D.A. and now a rare map seller, is dead in the library. Goldy may be starting her busiest weekend of the year, but Drew Wellington's murder tries to push everything else out of its way. It's difficult for Goldy as well because her husband Tom is a sheriff. She learns things she can't share, especially with her best friend Marla, the self proclaimed Gossip Queen of Aspen Meadow. Marla gives her other information that can and does help Tom. Even so, it's Goldy who has the pieces to put the mystery solution together. Diane Mott Davidson's Goldy Schulz mysteries tend to be alike. They're cozy, light, and enjoyable. The mysteries tend to have the twist to keep the reading moving along. Plus, of course, there are the delectable recipes. Sweet Revenge fits right in the series. Sweet Revenge has two mystery lines intertwining throughout. There is the murder of Drew Wellington in the library. There also is the mysterious woman who looks like a woman declared to be dead. If she's back, are Goldy and her son in trouble? There is Goldy's sardonic view of the uber wealthy around Aspen Meadows, a Denver suburb. It's funny in its insight. But as Goldy says, as long as they pay her, she'll deal with them. |
