Visions of Sugar Plums

Janet Evanovich

Mystery & Suspense1/25/2003

It is almost Christmas. Stephanie Plum is trying to apprehend Sandy Claws for failure to appear. She is a bounty hunter for her uncle, a bail bondsman and Mr. Claws did not go to court for his hearing. She has some unusual help on this case. A large, biker type man suddenly appears in her apartment. Diesel (that's his name) claims he is a Christmas spirit and is going to help her catch Mr. Claws. He also wants to help her bring Christmas into her home.

Mr. Claws runs a toy factory. With Diesel's help, she checks out the main storefront. It's empty. Then she finds a help wanted ad. Claws is looking for little people to make the toys for him so they can be called elves. She gets one of her acquaintances, a midget, help her locate the fugitive.

As usual, when Stephanie is involved, Things get strange and funny. Diesel's odd powers add to the wierdness. This is a cute side book to Evanovich's Stephanie Plum series. She is manic about last minute Christmas preparations, her family is as confused as ever, her sister Valerie is sick, and Grandma Mazur has a new stud muffin. Once again, I was laughing out loud during the short book. This time it was at the mental picture of Grandma Mazur's teeth.

This book would not stand alone well without the rest of the series. At the same time, it enhances and builds upon the rest of the books. Enjoy, have fun, and add to the Plum family saga.
