Slow BurnJulie Garwood
When Kate MacKenna is checking the tent before a gala art opening and charity event, she steps out for a moment. The tent explodes right after she walks away. After leaving the hospital and talking with the Charlestown police, she flies to Boston to be with her best friend Jordan Buchanan, who has to have minor surgery. While Jordan is in the hospital, her brother, Dylan, reenters Kate's life. Dylan is a police detective in Boston currently on medical leave after being shot a few months earlier. When she returns home, Kate again narrowly misses being killed when a building blows up due to a gas leak. She lets Jordan know what happened. Jordan, in turn, calls on Dylan. Even though Kate doesn't think anything of it, Jordan believes someone is trying to kill Kate. If anyone can protect her, Dylan can. Dylan goes down to Silver Springs, South Carolina, to protect Kate. He also wants to catch whoever is after her - if only they can discover why. Now Kate is dealing with getting her two sisters back to their education, the threat of her business being impounded from a defaulted loan her mother made, someone trying to hurt her for an unknown reason, and the discovery of her love for Dylan. Dylan is a ladie's man, a "love 'em and leave 'em" type and Kate knows it. If she survives everything else, she doesn't know how she'll survive when he returns to Boston. Slow Burn is a romantic suspense that keeps the reader pulled in. Unfortunately, the description on the book cover gave me a clue as to who is "the bad guy", so it was fairly obvious who was out to get her. The reader is told why in the first chapter, although Kate and Dylan don't discover the reason until two-thirds of the way into the book. As usual, Julie Garwood has a fun, sexually crackling tension between the main characters. The Buchanan family and their friends still have people to pull in for future novels, now including Kate's sisters if Garwood wants. Yes, this is romantic suspense fluff, and quite enjoyable for what it is. You can find more about this book at Notice: Explicit sexual situations The Series:Heartbreaker |
