Cat in a Sapphire Slipper

Mystery and Suspense 9/27/2008 Rating: 4 Scrolls

One of Las Vegas' infamous Fontana brothers is getting married to Temple Barr's aunt, Kit Carlson. Eight of the nine brothers have been confirmed bachelors but now Aldo, the oldest, is breaking the pattern.

Temple is also now engaged to Matt Devine. Max Kinsella has completely disappeared and Temple has realized the Matt is the man for her whether Max were around or not. Midnight Louie, the other male in Temple's life, accepts Matt.

The Fontana brothers throw a bachelor party for Aldo. Matt is invited along. Midnight Louie sneaks in the limo under their feet to go along as well. But instead of the strip club that had been the original location, the men find themselves outside of the city in the desert at a bordello named the Sapphire Slipper. They have been kidnapped. Then a woman is found dead and Matt appears to be the prime suspect.

Cat in a Sapphire Slipper is a quick read with an interesting mystery involved. All of the Midnight Louie novels are part of an overall arc (best read in order) with an individual mystery for each novel as well. This murder mystery is unrelated to the overall storyline and unexpected. The kidnapping of the Fontana brothers and guests is the humorous twist that marks these novels.

This cozy detective mystery by Carole Nelson Douglas is quick and witty. The murder mystery holds its own among all the ongoing situations. There is a lot of character building and adding, especially with Lt. Carmen Molina. The reader finally gets to learn what happened to Max after he disappeared at the end of Cat in a Quicksilver Caper.

Long time readers of the Midnight Louie series will enjoy this book. If you're new to the series, you won't get lost and will appreciate the mystery. To enjoy the overall story, go back and start with Catnap.
