Eve Dallas and Roarke are at the end of their honeymoon. He was able to convince her to take three weeks from her high pressure police homicide detective's job and spend it with him. He also took a vacation from all his businesses. Well, maybe they take a break. The spend part of their honeymoon on one of his pleasure planets that is under construction. She runs holo-simulations of street dangers to keep her on edge. As they are ready to return to New York City, a body is found in the employees area. A young man had hung himself. He was naked with a grin on his face. There seemed to be no reason for his suicide. Dallas finishes her honeymoon reporting the death. When they return a prominent lawyer commits suicide. Although he had slashed his wrists, he also had a smile on his face. Dallas has trouble believing he would kill himself. He was not the personality type. Then she has some anomalies pointed out to her. Were the deaths similar? Were they suicide or were they mind controlled? Dallas has to uncover the facts before someone she loves is endangered. Once again this is an edgy, hard hitting novel that pulls me right in. These are dark mysteries, full of drugs, sex (sometimes fairly graphic), and violence. There is a chilling moment when Dallas is trying to save another attempted suicide, a jumper, that is caught live by the newschannels. Roarke happens to be watching as his wife tries to get a woman off the 47th floor ledge alive. Yet there is enough redemption to keep this series or this book from being too dark for my tastes. Once more, Robb has a solid, good mystery for us. You can find more about this book at Notice: Graphic violence, Strong indecent language, Strong sexual content |
