Neeve Kearny owns an exclusive women's clothing store on Madison Avenue in New York City. One scatterbrained writer is an excellent customer. When she doesn't claim her newest order of clothes, Neeve begins to wonder what is going on. She does not know what we the reader knows. The writer had her throat slit and the body was dumped and hidden in a park. Neeve has trouble convincing her father, the retired police commissioner, or anyone else of her suspicions. Each person she talked with came up with plausible explanations of the writer's disappearance. Was it the victim's ex-husband? Or her unsavory nephew? Was the mob involved? Or did someone get unhappy about the fashion expose she was getting ready to write? Neeve's mother had been murdered 17 years before. The mob criminal that her father suspected of ordering the hit was being released from jail. He is afraid that a hit will be ordered on Neeve. A hit is ordered on Neeve, but it is not by the criminal. Another ex-criminal is stalking her to carry out her murder. What a wonderful, riveting story!!! I almost didn't get to the grocery store because I was reading. I didn't finish painting the metal cabinet for my kitchen. I was too involved in the book. I've read enough of Clark's novels to expect a twist at the end. This one I even guessed right, although I missed the clues that lead up to it. This is a don't miss mystery. |
