Stephanie Plum discovers a monkey on her doorstep one morning. She's been selected to baby sit (monkey sit?) while Carl's owner is on her honeymoon. Stephanie's new partner accompanies her to the bail bond office. She picks up some "clients" who missed their court date so now Stephanie moves into her role as bounty hunter to pick up the men. When she heads home, she discovers Diesel has let himself into her apartment. It turns out they are looking for the same man. She is looking for Martin Munch, a 24-year-old electronics genius who is still a boy in many ways, including size. He punched out his boss then didn't show up for court. Wulf Grimoire is looking for world domination. Wulf decides Munch can help him attain his goal. He and Munch disappear into the Barrens, a deep wooded area outside of Trenton that has odd, scary people living in it. Diesel joins Stephanie on the hunt for Munch. He also insists on staying in her apartment rather than in a hotel or somewhere else. She's not happy, although he does bring in lots of food. Stephanie has a couple other skips to take in as well. When she's not looking for Munch, she tries to find the man who had run across his ex-wife's new husband - twice - and the man who shot himself in the foot when trying to rob a convenience store. This is Stephanie Plum - don't expect things to go right. When her flamboyant friend Lula insists on joining her on the pick ups you can be sure that things are going to be funny as well as dangerous. Janet Evanovich once again has her fun with Stephanie Plum in Plum Spooky. That means the reader has fun, too. It's full of innuendo and outright sexual discussions and vulgar language and hot men and humor. The book isn't deep and never made me laugh out loud but I certainly smiled a number of times, especially in the product warehouse (flying tomatoes, anyone?). The book is fun although not as sharp as some pf Evanovich's have been. Diesel stays mysterious and almost magical. I wish I had him with me when I get onto some of the busy, many stop-lighted streets of the city. If you haven't yet met Stephanie Plum, you'd be OK starting with Plum Spooky. If you have, it will be an enjoyed addition. Notice: Non-graphic violence, Strong indecent language, Suggestive dialogue or situations |
