Plum Lovin'

Janet Evanovich

Mystery & Suspense 7/9/2007

It's almost Valentine's Day. The bail jumpers are few and Stephanie Plum only has one person to apprehend. But it's not easy finding Annie Hart. Then Diesel, the unusual Unmentionable she met one other time, appears in her apartment. He has Annie, an Unmentionable as well, hidden away. He'll give Annie to Stephanie if Stephanie will help finish Annie's match making tasks by Valentine's Day. Since there's no one else for Stephanie to catch, she agrees.

Diesel has Annie hidden away because she is being stalked by another man with unusual powers, Beaner. Diesel would also like Stephanie's assistance catching Beaner - but warns her not to get too close.

Now Stephanie is playing matchmaker to a divorced women with 4 children, a veterinarian, a butcher, a 35-year-old woman with a problem that embarrasses her, and her sister Valerie's fiance, Albert Kloughn. She also is trying to clear Annie's name and get Beaner's wife to take him back so he'll leave Annie alone. Even during slow periods at the bail bonds office Stephanie's life gets weird.

OK, I obviously like the Stephanie Plum series. But Plum Lovin' is just dumb. It's cute enough, but the story line barely carries the length of the novella that it is. Ranger and Joe are both off on secret projects, so Stephanie has Diesel throwing all the innuendos and blatant suggestions to her. The good thing about this book? Well, since it is a novella, it doesn't take long to read. Plum Lovin' isn't unreadable, but isn't great. Nor does it further the series (except maybe for Albert and Valerie). But it was a good way for Janet Evanovich to keep her earnings coming in (me, cynical?)
