Pepper PikeLes Roberts
Milan Jakovich is a private investigator. One Wednesday night he is called by a new client and asked to be a bodyguard for one night. He accepts the job and drives out to Pepper Pike, an exclusive Cleveland suburb, to protect the man. When he arrives, the man is gone. He waits for a couple hours in a nearby tavern, finally gives up, and returns to his apartment. The next morning the man's wife calls him. Her husband is missing. Would Jakovich look for him? He returns to Pepper Pike, meets with Mrs. Amber, and agrees to search for Richard Amber. He starts looking for him at his advertising agency, with the few friends Amber actually had, at the Cleveland Playhouse, in Indiana, with the Cleveland mob, and even has contact with the governor of Ohio while on the case. Where is Richard Amber? Why had he called for a bodyguard that night? What would have happened it Jakovich had arrived at the Amber home earlier that evening? What was Mrs. Amber hiding? This is a cunning mystery set around Cleveland, Ohio. Jakovich is recently divorced and is taking stock of himself and his life. The Ambers are very wealthy but not happy. The twists and turns of the story keep the reader confused. The clues are available to the astute reader. Pepper Pike is a satisfying read. More reviews can be found for this book at Pepper Pike |
