Murder in the White HouseMargaret Truman
The Secretary of State has been found with his throat cut. To make it worse, the body is on the second floor of the White House, a controlled area. Who on the White House staff, Presidential Cabinet, or Presidential family could have killed him? What reason could anyone have for killing him? Ron Fairbanks, the President's Special Counsel, is given total authority to investigate the case. Ron, a young up and coming lawyer in the political arena, gets himself thrown into the fire. He pulls in a staff from the CIA, FBI, and Secret Service to help with the investigation. Very quickly it comes out that the Secretary of State had been quite the ladies' man. Plus he was spending more money than he was earning in his position. The Secretary of State had quite a few secrets. These were secrets that some could have killed him over. Yet those with cause to murder him did not have access to the second floor of the White House. This is a good book. The reader is given all the facts as Ron Fairbanks discovers them. The clues are all there, along with a few red herrings as well. I did figure out the murderer of the Secretary of State and the reason for the murder. I was kept guessing on some of the other actions that resulted from or caused the final meeting of the Secretary of State and his murderer. Every time Ron discovers more information, it still comes back to the question, "Who had access to the second floor of the White House who would want to kill the victim?"
