Almost every television viewer in the United States, and possibly around the world, has seen the classic Steve Allen spot on the old 1950's Tonight Show where he went off into a laughing jag and could not stop despite the live show. Steve Allen has been a musician, comic, and entertainer for over 50 years. He also is a writer, both of more serious work and light mysteries. This series of mysteries features himself as the amateur detective and highlights many known stars in small parts and well as the fictional characters for the murder. Steve Allen and his wife, Jayne Meadows, leave a tropical cruise vacation to join an old friend, jazz musician Bobby Hamilton, in Las Vegas for a new show. During rehearsals for the show, Bobby's second wife is murdered in a sauna with Jayne. Bobby is soon arrested for the murder of his wife. Although he claimed he was kidnapped and set up for the murder, others seemed to disprove his story. Steve once again goes into his amateur sleuth mode as he sets out to discover who really strangled Christie Hamilton. The clues are there. An astute reader should be able to discover with Steve who done it. I didn't, but the clues were niggling in my memory as Steve remembered them. It's light, fluff, and drops a few big names. It's a mystery for a fun time. This book out of print. Your best bet for this book would be the library or your local used book store. |
