Murder She Meowed

Mystery and Suspense11/24/1999 Rating: 3 Scrolls

Mrs. Murphy, the cat, and Tucker, the Corgi dog, belong to Mary Minor "Harry" Haristeen. Harry takes Tucker with her as she judges a jump in a steeplechase. Tucker now has something to lord over Mrs. Murphy. It is more exciting when a jockey is found after the race. He had been stabbed in a showmanlike fashion.

Mrs. Murphy, and so Tucker, follow up on the murder. They uncover clues, but cannot make their human understand them. Harry lets the murder dwell in her thoughts as she returns to her post office job. Soon another jockey is found. He had been murdered in the same fashion. Harry finds herself unwillingly pulled into the investigation.

Murder, She Meowed is a fair to average novel. As much as I like the idea of the animal detectives, this story was nothing exceptional. It was a fun read, not an involving one. I cared who had committed the murders, but was not too concerned. The writing and mystery kept my attention. This book is part of a series that "Sneaky Pie Brown", a cat, co-authors with Rita Mae Brown.
