I am very glad this was not the first of Truman's "Capital Murders" that I read. I would have probably missed the others. This is a good mystery. It is not up to the caliber of others I have read. I was disappointed. It is basically a spy mystery. Admittedly, the CIA agent involved in solving the crime is pretty new at the cloak and dagger stuff. Colette Cahill has been stationed in Budapest, Hungary, when a friend of her and occasional courier for the CIA is murdered in London. She wants to discover what happened for herself. The CIA also wants to know what happens, so changes her leave to time working for them on this case. Colette returns to Washington, visits London, Budapest, and the British Virgin Islands as she delves into her friend's life. She learns more about publishing, hypnotism, and the CIA than she would like. Margaret Truman once again writes a good tale. But I didn't want to read a murder mystery that is a spy story. Perhaps I should have know Murder in the CIA would be just that, though, a spy mystery. |
