Brother Cadfael is a brother in an English abbey in midevil times. He is older, wiser than many of the members of the abbey. His church is small, with little to make it stand out. Prior Robert feels that lack. He seeks recognition. Prior Robert finds the solution in a little known Welsh saint. He takes a party of the brothers to Wales to retrieve her bones. Brother Cadfael comes along as a member of the group to translate. The people who live in the small town where Saint Winifred is buried resent the brothers and someone taking "their" saint. Things get worse when the man who is their major opponent is found dead. Brother Cadfael is a righteous man with a shady past. He is intelligent and can step back from a situation. He can look at clues to a murder and put them together without the benefit of modern forensics. A Morbid Taste for Bones is the first novel of the series and a welcome introduction to the good Brother. Notice: Non-graphic violence, Suggestive dialogue or situations |
