If I'd Killed Him When I Met HimSharyn McCrumb
Elizabeth MacPherson is back in Virginia. Cameron, her husband, is missing at sea, presumably dead. She is doing investigative work for her brother Bill, and his law partner, A.P. Hill (do not call her Amy!). Bill's client is an older woman whose husband has taken a second wife without a divorce from her. A.P.'s client is an older woman who shoots her ex-husband and his new wife. Both are strange cases, to say the least. Elizabeth is also coping with her parents' divorce, her father's new wife, and her mother's new lifestyle. The investigative work helps distract her. Bill's client does not want a divorce or for her husband to get rid of wife #2, just to treat both of them fairly. A.P.'s client keeps making jokes about her predicament, glad that the problem of her unfaithful husband and new wife are handled. As expected, this novel is hilarious. Many times I laughed out loud. It is also extremely poignant. It is about the death and changes of relationships. Elizabeth is coming to terms with the loss of Cameron and the divorce of her parents. Besides the quirky clients above, more comic relief is also given by another of Bill's client, a woman who wants to marry a dolphin. You'll want to laugh and cry during this book. Enjoy.
