Vic Bowering is an actress in New York. She, like so many in her field, exists from job to job, but is able to earn a living at it. She is separated from her lawyer husband of ten years, living on her own seeing two other men. When her almost-ex invites her to a party featuring many of the cast and workers of a struggling soap opera, she accepts. The party is to say farewell to the leading actor, Kendall James, who is moving to a prime time television show. The next morning James is found dead. He was poisoned, probably by someone at the party. Vic's husband had been James' lawyer and handled his money. He becomes one of the suspects. Vic is offered an extra part on the soap opera for a day or two. She is able to to keep connections with the other actors she knew as the investigation continues. Also, the producer of the prime time show has taken a liking to her. She is able to continue her connections as she fends off his advances. This is a cozy mystey. The twist in this series is that Vic Bowering has some psychic abilities. They are not enough to keep her out of danger, but enough to help point to certain clues. This is told in first person, so we get her perspective and emotions throughout the novel. It's cute and quick reading. |
