Surrender the Pink

Carrie Fisher

 7/25/1998

OK, I admit it. I like stories with happy endings, or at least stories that are not too cynical.

Thus saying, I did not like this book. I needed something to listen to on a trip in the car, and I've liked Carrie Fisher since Star Wars. Of course I had to try it.

This book is too jaded for me. She is a good writer. Even not liking the story I still read/listened to the whole thing. I think I kept hoping for that happy ending. It focuses on relationships and sex. Neither are resolved.

Dinah, the main character, is abandoned as a child by her father, and is looking for a father figure. Early in the book she meets, marries, and divorces Rudy. Despite the fact that Dinah loves Rudy, she is the one who left the marriage.

The rest of the book is her angst and trying to decide whether she wants Rudy back or not. She stalks he and his current girlfriend to their summer home as she tries to decide.

I repeat, Carrie Fisher writes well. She made me believe in the characters. I just didn't like the book.
