Becky Fleetwood is a journalist for Successful Savings, a financial magazine. She lives with a friend in a flat in one of the better neighborhoods of London. She has a great wardrobe. She appears to have things together. But she knows differently. She owes her bank over £3,000. Her VISA bill is maxed out. Her Octagon Silver account is way past due. And she can't avoid a sale. Becky writes articles about financial issues she doesn't understand. She does very well paraphrasing the literature given at the different companies' press releases. She ignores her bills, hoping that if she doesn't open them, they'll go away. She starts considering wild schemes to M.M.M. - Make More Money. She's going to have to figure out something, SOON! Confessions of a Shopaholic is Bridget Jones goes shopping. That's the flavor I get from this book. Becky is a likeable English single working woman who can always justify shopping. I had to chuckle at some of her excuses - I've used some of them on occasion myself. She becomes an ostrich when it comes to her personal finances. There is even an elusive bachelor who is around when she would least prefer it. Confessions of a Shopaholic is a fun bit of fluff that makes the reader smile. It's not great literature, instead it's cute. There is a serious underlying theme of the dangers of getting yourself into financial trouble. But it is dealt with lightly. |
